Prioritization & Roadmap
BUsiness REquest
A stakeholder in 2018 had a startup company idea wanting to open a retail wine stores with a companion app to guide users in the decision making process and increase the speed and confidence of wine selection using a customized approach.
The team was asked to conduct user research to understand market problems and the need, create a workable prototype and roadmap to share with future investors, and explore the use of AI technology to help with differentiation in the marketplace.
Research
We conducted contextual research with 10-20 participants representing our proto-persona (our team's existing knowledge or assumptions about who the current users are). Our goal was to gain a deeper understanding if our users would utilize a mobile app or an in store mobile kiosk.
Validating & Prioritizing
The UX designer and I validated and prioritized features and solutions goals within the research track.
The Solution Architect and I did an assesment of current technology options, the state of data needs and capabilites required to support the user research and size the features.
I used a priority matrix where feature priorities were weighted in four categories of
Impact across multiple personas
Technical Level of Effort
Risk
Business Value
Evaluating Data
I then charted the results from the feature priority matrix to show Complexity and Value, with the goal of prioritizing low complexity and high value to drive a possible roadmap.
The output for the final readout:
Research Based Roadmap
I created a prioritized concept roadmap based on the validation of research with possible end users/customers and features assessment.
Business Challenges
There was a lack of direction with the business model with a single stakeholder and there was not enough research and background data to back up a strong enough need in the marketplace that would provide enough value for users to pay for. This is an example of the Business Model Canvas that I started to eavaluate and drive the value discussion.
